Whether you’re looking for high adventure on the waves, romantic sunsets, or a protected, family-friendly swimming spot, it’s sure to be nearby. And while you may be familiar with ever-popular Waikiki Beach and high-octane surfing along the North Shore, you’ll discover an almost unlimited selection in between. Beach conditions vary by direction, shore contours, and season. The South Shore has many sheltered beaches ideal for family outings, except in the summer, when the surf is unusually high. The tropical Windward or East Shore receives the prevailing winds for most of the year and is a favorite destination of windsurfers and sailors. The North Shore is world-renowned for spectacular winter surf along beautiful white sand beaches. The Leeward or West Shore also gets enormous winter waves, but has many excellent swimming beaches and great fishing.
